Lublin, ul. Fabryczna – ul. Wrońska, obóz na Flugplatzu
Lublin, Fabryczna Street / Wrońska Street, the camp at Flugplatz
Ger.: Cholmerstrasse/ Wronskastrasse, Flughafenlager/ Lager am alten Flugplatz
This location was named after the pre-war aviation plant, Plage-Laśkiewicz [from 1937, the Lublin Aircraft Factory]. Until the beginning of 1940, a small camp for Polish Army prisoners of war operated here. After its dissolution, from the spring of 1940, Lublin Jews worked here temporarily on a short-term basis. At the beginning of 1942, a permanent labor camp was established on the Flugplatz grounds, which was an important location on the map of Operation "Reinhard”. Mainly Jews (women and men) deported from Poland and other countries were imprisoned there. From the spring of 1942 till the fall of 1943, the camp served as a selection site for transports arriving in Lublin during Operation "Reinhard”. However, it was predominantly a place for sorting and storing the property stolen from Jews. On November 3 1943, the Jewish prisoners of Flugplatz were murdered during the Operation “Harvest Festival" ("Aktion Erntefest") in the nearby Majdanek concentration camp (KL Lublin). Flugplatz, then deprived of manpower, was liquidated.
Today this place is part of the 2017 memory trail "Lublin. Memory of the Holocaust ”.
