Mystery of Memory "Salvaged Stories" - 5th November 2013
On November 5th, 2013 at noon in the "Grodzka Gate - NN Theatre" Centre took place an artistic event - Mystery of Memory "Salvaged Stories".
It was a continuation of another Mystery performed on March 17th, 2012 in relation to the 70th anniversary of the beginning of Operation Reinhardt - the extermination of Jews in General Governement. Those who took part in that event were inhabitants of Lublin and their descendants from Israel, USA, France and Great Britain. Mystery of Memory "Salvaged Stories" 2013 was a form of commemoration of 70th aniversary of the end of Operation Reinhardt in Lublin, its last stage was an execution of 18 000 of Jewish inmates of the Majdanek camp on November, 3 rd, 1943 within the Erntefest Aktion.
This year in Mystery took part Witnesses of History - city's inhabitants who remember the German occupation period and the Extermination of Jewish civilians.Witnesses of History transmitted the memory of those events to students from one of Lublin high schools (II Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Jana Hetmana Zamoyskiego).
During the Mystery there were several spots in the space of the Center, where the inhabitants of Lublin – witnesses of extermination of Lublin Jewry – told youn people about the wartime events. Every story was recorded in order to become, after prior transcription and edition, a part of documental book "Mystery of Memory Salvaged Stories”.
During the Mystery the Center was open for everyone who was willing to come. Mystery Salvaged Stories had a character of para-theatreatical event from the boundaries of document theatre. It was also a symbolical act of transmission of Memory about dramatic events of Extermination to the young generation.
